In
"Barricade", the concept is simple --- get at least one of your pieces
to the top of the board first ... but, the trick is what strategy to use.
Sheer movement of your pieces as quickly as possible or, since blocking
your opponents' is possible, do you use that strategy? One of the earliest
modern games by Ravensburger. Also see "Obstruction"

info: Quick Rules from Obstruction
OBJECT:
Be the first player to reach Finish with one of your playing pieces.
BEFORE
PLAY: Each player chooses a color, then places their five pieces of
that color on the matching start area. Place the eleven Obstruction / Barricade
pieces on the gameboard on their designated spaces. Each player rolls the
die. The highest roll begins play and then play passes to the left.
PLAY:
The first player places one of their pieces on the Start space for their
color and rolls the die, than moves the piece the number of spaces indicated
on the die (not counting the Start space). On subsequent turns, the player
may either start another piece or move the piece already on the trail.
They start a new piece in the same manner as they started the first piece.
If moving a piece already on the trail, they may move in any direction
except diagonally. Pieces may not move over any space more than
once per turn and only one piece may be moved on each turn.
Each
space may be occupied by only one piece. If a player lands on an occupied
space, the piece that is there is returned to the player's color spot in
their start area. Those pieces may be returned to play in a later turn
but must proceed from the Start space again.
An
Obstruction / Barricade piece may not be passed --- it must be removed.
To remove an Obstruction piece, the player must land by exact count
on the space occupied by the Obstruction / Barricade piece. They then remove
the Obstruction / Barricade piece and places it on any space in any row
except
the row immediately above the Start area (in this way the player can
block one of their opponents or protect one of their own pieces. If a player
is so blocked so that they are unable to move any of their pieces the number
rolled on the die, they must pass that turn.
TO
WIN: The first player to land one piece on Finish is the winner.
They must land there by exact count.
