"Conflict"
was first published in 1940, then reappeared in the 1960s and, again, in
the 1970s. Although stated as a game of war, it is more of a strategy game
than what a wargamer might consider a "wargame". The gameboard is divided
into areas which constitute water or land, with bridges leading to other
areas, plus some mines. Players start with some pieces in their home square
and the remainder of their pieces in the center reserve area. Rolls of
the dice strictly control movement and also allow for players to retrieve
"reserve" pieces for play in the game. The pieces represent planes, artillery,
anti-aircraft guns, and battleships. The objective is to either eliminate
your opponents by capturing all their pieces or occupying their home square.
Some of the more interesting versions involve alliances between players.
Game
components include : Gameboard, 4 sets of Playing pieces (ea. set consists
of 2 airplanes, 4 artillery, 1 anti-aircraft and 5 battleships), 2 Dice
& instructions.
Two
to four players. Ages 10 & up. Parker Brothers. Originally published
in 1940.
