Place
your "Battling Top" in the Arena, wind the string up, get ready --- and
let 'em rip! "Battling Tops" (with names like Rocky Rocko, Twirling Tim,
Hurricane Hank & Dizzy Dan) would battle it out in the arena as they
spun rapidly, knocking each other around --- and sometimes out of the arena
--- until the last Top was standing, so to speak. An instant hit
when released (even the TV commercial garnered a Clio Award), others re-published
since do not seem to live up to the original. The blue arena is the most
common, with a green one being rare. A red arena was used in one of the
republishings, but it was smaller in size.
Game
components include : plastic Battling Top Arena, 5 Spinners (spindle, string
& disk in white, green, yellow, red & one mixed), 4 Pullers, Scoring
pegs & instructions. Note: Some earlier copies may have included 6
Spinners and there are even tales of 8 Spinner ones (2 ea. of the four
Tops). In my opinion, what may have happened is that Ideal may have "tweaked"
what was in the boxes depending on what the feedback was from customers.
Two
to four players. Ages 6 & up. Ideal Toy Corporation from 1969.
