"Victory
in the Pacific" is a game of the strategic naval war in the Pacific in
WW2, from the first attack on Pearl Harbor to the decisive battle of the
Philippine Sea in late 1944. The Japanese player begins the game with an
overwhelming advantage and must strike quickly and decisively before the
Allied player's gathering productivity mushrooms to its own advantage.
Generally this is a Beginner or Advanced Beginner game and, as such, does
not get into tactical details but concentrates on making the game quick
and easy to learn, with alot of abstraction
qualities. Combat is resolved through dice rolls after determining ships'
attack and defense factors. It applies the same basic system used in "War
At Sea" but adds rules and subtleties, with more ships and sea areas.
Low complexity. Typical playing time from two to four hours, with up to
eight or more needed if using lots of options.
Game
components include : Mapboard, over 200 Counters, Japanese Order of Appearance
card, Allied Order of Appearance card, 4 Dice & Rule book.
Two
players. Ages 12 & up. Avalon Hill from 1977.

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
