"5th
Fleet" (Fifth Fleet) is a refinement of the "Sixth
Fleet" (6th Fleet) game system (and the fourth in the "Fleet Series").
It examines the strengths and weaknesses of the Soviet and American navies
(and their allies) in the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean. Each players'
capital ships, attack submarines, and limited air assets must be protected
from the devastating firepower of modern missile, torpedo, and bomb attacks
while inflicting maximum damage on the enemy. The shifting military and
political alliances in the area, and the presence of the modern Indian
Navy, are variables that will strongly affect future war in these troubled
waters. Ten scenarios. Medium to high complexity.
Other
games in the Fleet Series include "Sixth
Fleet" (6th Fleet), "2nd Fleet"
(Second Fleet), "7th Fleet" (Seventh
Fleet) and "3rd Fleet" (Third Fleet).
Also made into a computer game. None
of the other games were required to play any of the others in this series.
They were all stand-alone games.
Game
components include : 3 Mapsheets, 384 five-eighths inch Counters, 260 half-inch
Counters, 2 Strategic Air displays, 3 Scenario set-up cards, 2 Logistics
Roster pads, 10-sided Die, Counter storage tray, 2 Charts / Tables booklets
& Rule book.
Two
players. Ages 12 & up. Victory Games / Avalon Hill. Design: Joseph
M. Balkoski.
An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
