It examines the strengths and weaknesses of the Soviet Red Banner Northern
Fleet and the U.S. Second Fleet and it's NATO allies in a future conflict
of control of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. Players take command
of the opposing Superpower fleets. Five introductory scenarios, four intermediate
scenarios and an advanced scenario w/ multiple options teach you the capabilities
of your submarine, surface, and air units.
Special
game features: Pack ice, drift ice, sub-oceanic mountain terrain, torpedo,
surface-to-surface missiles, ASW, ballistic missiles, amphibious assaults,
parachute & commando assaults and more. The advanced game also includes

effects of squalls and storms on naval operations. Game-turns are about
eight hours. Medium complexity. Typical playing time about one hour for
Basic game, three to six hours for Intermediate and expect twenty hours
or more with the Advanced.

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
