Actually
titled "The Rise And Decline Of The Third Reich", "Third Reich" (as it
is better known), is one of the most revised games on the market ... it
has also won numerous awards. A simulation of the Grand Strategic situation
as it existed in Europe during World War Two, the game encompasses six
games in one: A Campaign game starting from the invasion of Poland, an
Advanced Campaign game, a Multi-player game for 3 to 6 players and 3 shorter
scenarios ("Blitzkrieg 39-42", "Turning Point 42-44" and "Fuehrer Bunker
44-46"). One can start from the beginning of the war, during, or nearing
its end, for a wide variety of play.
Game
features include costs for offensive options, attrition, production, conquests,
alliances, intervention, neutrality, breakthrough combat, exploitation,
airborne assaults, amphibious assaults,
shore bombardment, sea escort, air and naval bases, air missions, convoys
and more. Counters represent armor, infantry, airborne, partisan, air and
naval forces of six major powers and fourteen minor countries.
A comprehensive
48-page Strategy Guide was published in 1985. It covers an introduction
to the game with easy-to-learn understanding of the rules and mechanics,
basic strategies for use with the different Powers in the game, diplomacy,
advanced tactics, and a questions and answers section. This was sold separately
and should be a must-have for would-be Third Reich players.
The
game was eventually expanded and revised into an "Advanced
Third Reich" game, with a companion game titled "Empire
Of The Rising Sun", which took the fight to the Pacific and allowed
linkage for a Global War encompassing all of WW2.
Game
components include (3rd Edition) : 4 Mapboards, 560 Counters, 5 double-sided
Force Pool Scenario cards, Die & 32-page Rules booklet.

a two player game w/ scenario for three to six. Ages 12 & up. Avalon

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
