Tactics II by Avalon Hill --- later edition boxAvalon Hill's second commercial release, "Tactics II" is a direct descendant of the original game published by Charles Roberts in the early 1950s (that game, "Tactics", was re-released with some changes as part of the Silver Anniversary). You command armor and other units, with variable weather factors, which are played in a Chess like manner. You must use strategic planning and tactics in a battle of red and blue Division and Headquarter units. Although not a re-creation of any specific battle, this is still an excellent Introductory game. Typical playing time about two hours.

Game components include (original version) : Mapboard, 88 Counters, 12 Weather cards, 2 CRTs (Combat Results Tables), Die, 2 cardboard Counter trays, Advertising Cover sheet, Instruction Supplement sheet & 32-page Rules booklet.

Tactics II by Avalon HillGame components include (later versions) : Gameboard, 100 Counters (50 blue & 50 red), Combat Results Calculator, Weather Table, Time Record card, Reference folder & instruction folder.

Two players (more w/ Sub-Commanders). Ages 12 & up. Avalon Hill. Originally published in 1958 and re-published over the years with some changes.

The General magazine Vol 9 # 6Additional info: There were articles on this game in "The General" magazine:
Vol. 1 # 4
Vol. 6 # 1
Vol. 7 # 5
Vol. 9 # 6
Vol. 21 # 6 Amphibious Scenario

An important note regarding Avalon Hill games - It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed, sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more checking to insure its completeness.
