"Mustangs"
is another game in the "Smithsonian Institution American History Series"
(the others are: "Gettysburg", "Battle
Of The Bulge", "D-Day", "Guadalcanal"
and "Midway") and re-creates an era
(1944 to 1945) when propeller-driven fighter planes fought for control
of the air above Europe and the Pacific. The game includes many aircraft,
like the legendary P-51 Mustang, the rugged P-47 Thunderbolt, the versatile
F4U Corsair, the deadly F6F Hellcat, the agile Japanese Zero, the heavily
armed FW-190 and even the futuristic German jet, the Me-262. The game,
like others in the series, served as an Introductory level wargame. There
was also available a "Mustangs Expansion Module" (1993) with added 62 new
aircraft plus scenarios.
Game
components include : Gameboard, Counters, 2 Game cards, 4 Control cards
& Rule book.
Two to four players. Ages
10 & up. Avalon Hill from 1992. Design: S. Craig Taylor.
Additional
info: There were articles on this game in "The General" magazine:
Vol.
28 # 5 Variant rules
Vol.
30 # 5 Variants & Historical Dogfights / Scenarios
Vol.
30 # 6 Variant Counters
An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
