"Kriegspiel"
is an abstract wargame where Knights, Bishops, etc. are substituted with
Infantry, Armor, Special Forces and Mechanized Troops. No dice, spinners
or cards --- just logic and strategy where combat is resolved by consulting
a Combat Matrix, cross-indexed according to the player's choice of attack
and defense positions. Features include invasions, air power, logistics,
weather, diplomacy, prisoner exchange and more. Basic game for the novice
plus Advanced game. At one time this was used as a training module at Ft.
Belvoir, Virginia. Low to medium complexity. Bookshelf / bookcase game
- slip-box type. There was also a PBM (Play-By-Mail) Kit available for
"Kriegspiel".
Game
components include : 2 Mapboards (red & black), 45 Counters (25 red
& 20 black), 2 Battle Table charts, 8 Defense cards, Holding tray,
Game Instruction sheet & 16-page Battle Manual.
Two
players (more possible). Ages 12 & up. Avalon Hill from 1970.

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
