"Gladiator"
is a game of man-to-man combat with some miniature like feel to it. There
are four classes of gladiator which vary by armor and armament. Each will
have strengths and weaknesses. In the Basic game, both gladiators are armed
with a short sword and shield, while players record their moves secretly
in order to attain a positional advantage over their opponent. The Advanced
game allows for more variety, especially with the classic short sword versus
net & trident. The Campaign game allows players to assume the roles
of wealthy Romans vying to acquire great wealth through wagers on their
own stable of gladiators. The Gladiator can also improve their characteristics
through victory but risks injuries, with the goal of become the Emperor's
champion and winning their freedom. Low to medium complexity. General playing
time about 15 to 30 minutes per game.
Game components include :
Mapboard, 48 Counters (12 Gladiators & 36 other), Gladiator log pad,
Dice & Rule book.
Although
a multi-player game, it is best played with two (except for Campaign game).
Ages 10 & up. Avalon Hill from 1981.

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
