"Fury
In The West" re-creates the Battle of Shiloh from the American Civil War.
The game begins with the surprise assault by the Confederates against the
Union forces camped near the Shiloh Church. The second day begins with
the Union forces regrouping and taking back lost ground. The main concept
in the game is "straggling" ... each time a unit moves it loses some stragglers,
and each time it stops, it will regain some stragglers. So alot of the
strategy will involve when to move and fight, and when to stay and rest.
Generals play key roles in that their presence increases units' abilities
to move and fight. Cavalry units help in reducing straggling. Artillery
units add firepower. Three scenarios cover the battle: One for the first
day, one for the second
day and one for both days. Optional rules allow variation.
Considered
a good game in that both sides get to attack and defend within a relatively
short period of time. Originally published by Battleline Publications in
1977, Avalon Hill made some changes, mostly in packaging. Low to medium
complexity.

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
