"Fortress
Europa" re-creates the Allied campaign in Western Europe from D-Day to
March 1945. The Allied player must select an invasion site and make a successful
landing, break out of the beachhead, drive across France, and push deep
into Germany. The German player must prevent the Allied invasion or else
conduct an orderly withdrawal across France, constantly delaying the Allies,
and then counterattacking in the winter. Five scenarios plus Campaign game.
High complexity. There was also a PBM (Play-By-Mail) Kit available for
this game. Generally considered a more sophisticated version of "D-Day".
Game
components include : Mapboard, 520 Counters, Die, 2 German Order Of Battle
charts, 2 Allied Order Of Battle charts, Aircraft Mission & Replacement
chart, Time Record chart & 16-page Rule book.
Two
players. Ages 10 & up. Avalon Hill from 1980. Design: John Edwards.

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
