"Circus
Maximus" is a tactical simulation of chariot racing in ancient Rome. Each
player controls one or more chariot teams. There is a Basic Game, an Advanced
Game (wrecks, dragged drivers and critical wounds) and a Campaign Game
(build a stable of chariot teams and drivers, wounds, experience impact
on future races, and amass a fortune). Low to high complexity depending
on game level. Typical game lasts about two hours. Originally published
by Battleline Publications in 1979.
Game
components include : Gameboard, Counters, Chariot Race log sheets &
Rules booklet.
One
to ten players (best played with eight). Ages 12 & up. Battleline Publications / Avalon Hill
from 1980.
Additional
info: There were articles on this game in "The General" magazine:
Vol.
17 # 5
Vol.
19 # 4 How to combine "Gladiator"
and "Circus Maximus" for Campaign game
There
was also a computer
version of the game.
An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
