After
pacifying Gaul, Rome decided to cross the Rhine and attempt to likewise
conquer Germany. "Caesar's Legions" re-creates the campaigns against the
barbarian tribes of Germany over a hundred plus year period --- from 58
B.C. to 69 A.D. The five scenarios include the ambush & massacre of
3 Roman Legions at Teutoburger Wald in 6 A.D. and the Roman campaign to
revenge that massacre in 9 A.D. The game system is somewhat reminiscent
of "1776" with continuous
battles with multiple combat rounds and tactical cards. Hexes are about
ten miles and game-turns about two days. Medium complexity. Typical playing
time from three to six hours. This is a revised version of "Eagles" published
by Game Designers' Workshop from 1973.
Game
components include: Mapboard, 460 Counters (includes 14 blanks), 16 Tactical
cards (2 sets of 8), Ambush & Concealed Movement chart, Die and 16-page
Rules book.
Two
players. Ages 12 & up. Avalon Hill from 1975.

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
