In
51 B.C., in his campaign to pacify Gaul, Caesar has chased the rebel leader
Vercingetorix and his forces into the town of Alesia. Ruling out an assault
on the fortification, Caesar and his legions construct their own fortifications
around the town, facing in both directions. The wisdom of this becomes
apparent when a relieving Gallic force of over a quarter of a million men
arrives. Now Caesar must defend a tactical donut, outnumbered six to one.
Units are infantry, cavalry, archers, javeliners, Numidian light infantry,
Italian recruits and leaders. Although technically called "Caesar: Epic
Battle Of Alesia", the game is better known as simply "Caesar At Alesia".
The game was first published in 1970 as "Alesia" on an amateur level, but
was revived and revised by Avalon Hill.
Game components include :
Mapboard, over 400 Counters, Playing Aids & Rule book.
Two players. Ages 12 &
up. Avalon Hill from 1976.
An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
