"Anzio"
re-creates the Allied amphibious invasions and campaigns in 1944 (code
named "Diadem") to secure the peninsula leading to the heart of Europe.
The Allies face not just the German and Italian armies, but some of the
most varied terrain in the world. Orders Of Battles are available for a
variety of mini-games. Features include unit step reduction, naval bombardment,
tactical air power, paratroopers, limited intelligence, breakthrough combat
& more. Medium complexity for Basic game and high complexity for Advanced
games.
Avalon
Hill's first try at the invasion of Italy in 1969 was not a great success.
It included a simple, quick-play Game 1, an expanded & more complex
Game 2 & optional rules for more "realism" in Game 3. This was revised
several times and progressively got better. The turning point was the 1974
version, where the parts generally could not be interchanged with the earlier
versions.
There
was also a PBM (Play-By-Mail) Kit available for "Anzio". I believe this
was for the 1974 and newer versions.
Game
components include (original version) : Mapboard, 448 Counters, Initial
Placement sheet, Game 1 Allied Order Of Appearance card, Game 1 German

An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
