In
"Air Force", you can re-create representative air battles from any period
between the Battle Of Britain of June 1940 through the massive air offenses
over Germany. It is flexible enough to play small scale fighter clashes,
night bombing raids, or close support tactical dive-bombing. Data cards
provide plane characteristics, including damage-taking capacity. Optional
rules and the ability to create scenarios provide lots of replay value.
Low to high complexity, depending on how difficult you want to make it.
Typical playing time about two hours. Originally published by Battleline
Publications.
Game
components include : Mapboards, 255 Counters (?), 15 Data cards, Laughs
pad, 2 Dice & instructions.
Two
players. Ages 12 & up. Battleline Publications / Avalon Hill.
Additional
info: See the "Dauntless"
module, which added ships, more plane types and additional options. There
was also an "Air Force / Dauntless" Expansion Kit which (according to the
Avalon Hill Catalog) added even more planes and rules to the "Air Force"
system, although I suspect it was just the "Air Force" and "Dauntless"
games sold together.
There
were articles on this game in "The General" magazine:
Vol.
18 # 2 Ten additional Scenarios
Vol.
20 # 6 Data Cards for four Bombers
Vol.
26 # 5
Vol.
28 # 3 Variant
An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
