If
you had fun building railroad empires in Rail
Baron, then get ready for Air Baron, the airline strategy game that
puts you in the chairman's seat building empires of the air. Played over
a map of North America, "Air Baron" pits players in a race for control
of the busiest airports in the United States and beyond ... 58 in the U.S.
and 16 overseas. Your company starts with a domestic spoke and grows to
dominate major hubs. You can also deploy jumbo jets and supersonic transports,
and branch out to foreign markets. Some players will go for quick profits
... some will gobble up the biggest market share they can find ... and
some will wage Fare Wars to take over their opponents' choicest sites.
The player best able to balance the options and seize the opportunities
is most likely to zoom off with a victory.
Although
the publishing of the game was spurred by the success of "Rail
Baron", its roots go back to the early days of Avalon Hill's "Air
Empire" from 1961.
Game
components include : Gameboard, 36 plastic Playing Pieces, Set of Profit
Markers, 4 Dice (2 red & 2 white), Play money & Rule book.
Two
to six players. Ages 12 & up. Avalon Hill from 1996.
Additional
info: There was an article on this game in "The General" magazine Vol.
30 # 6.
An
important note regarding Avalon Hill games
- It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games
with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed,
sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly
with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more
checking to insure its completeness.
