Welcome to the world of hotels! In "Acquire", players start hotel chains and then expand them by building more and more hotels around them. They also buy stock in active chains, including those of their opponents. If you own the most stock in any chain, you control that chain. Then make a profit by merging with other chains (the major stockholders receive bonuses during mergers). Race to acquire the greatest wealth. This was one of the games acquired (pun intended) from 3M and is still sought after.

A newer version was released in the 1990s but the game of Hotels was changed to one of Corporations. Although the basic gameplay was the same, players build, buy, and manipulate Corporate conglomerates. Nurture your companies carefully for maximum return, but be careful --- if they get too attractive, your competitors will "acquire" them and you will be out the door. Rules included five optional variants (multiple stock placements, purchases, mergers and windfalls).

A 1995 edition added a unique variation to the game. It is an option to use the special powers variant, so you can still play the game in classic Acquire style, with Hotels. This edition used cardboard tiles instead of the classic plastic.

Game components include (original version) : plastic Gameboard, 108 Black Tiles, 7 Colored Tiles, 175 stock Certificates (25 each for Tower, Worldwide, American, Luxor, Festival, Imperial and Continental), 6 Information cards, play money & instructions.

Computer AcquireGame components include (newer version) : plastic Gameboard, 108 Corporate Tiles, 7 plastic Buildings, 175 stock Certificates, 6 Information cards, Stock Market tray, play money & instructions.

Two to six players. Ages 12 & up. 3M / Avalon Hill.

Additional info: In the original version, black tiles are lettered and numbered using the letters A through I and the Computer Acquirenumbers 1 through 12 ... example A-1, A-2 ..... A-12, then B-1, B-2, etc. The colored tiles are lettered and colored --- T is a yellow tile, W is brown, A is blue, L is red, F is green, I is pink and C is teal. The letters on the colored tiles correspond to the first letter of the seven hotel chains ... T for Tower, W for Worldwide, A for American, L for Luxor, F for Festival, I for Imperial and C for Continental.

There were variations for this game in "The General" magazine Vol. 29 # 2 and also several Computer games.

An important note regarding Avalon Hill games - It was not unusual for Avalon Hill to re-publish most of their games with 2nd, 3rd or more Editions. Sometimes the game components changed, sometimes they didn't. If your game components do not correspond exactly with what is listed, do not despair. You may just have to do a little more checking to insure its completeness.
