"Extinction"
is played in the land of Darwinia, where you either thrive or become extinct.
If nature was allowed to take its course, the strong may undoubtedly survive
... but this game also introduces "Man", and that throws all bets out the
window. A unique and challenging game. Invented by Stephen P. Hubbell of
the University of Iowa and originally published by Sinauer Associates.
Game
components include : Gameboard, Spinner, 180 Gene Cards (30 each Prey Defense,
Reproduction, Habitat & Mobility, Predator Type, Environmental Tolerance
and Barrier Crossing), 30 Environmental Change cards, 80 Dice (20 each
of 4 colors), 10 cardboard Barriers (usually has 10 extra) & instructions.
Two
to four players. Ages 12 & up. Carolina Biological Supply Company.
Additional
info: Carolina Biological Supply Company began in 1927 when Thomas
E. Powell, Jr., an Elon College professor who collected natural specimens
for his class, discovered that he could sell surplus items to other teachers
and professors. Dr. Powell soon realized that a team approach, with his
company providing the centralized collection and distribution of educational
materials, would free teachers to make better use of their time in the
classroom and laboratory. Eventually, the company also made games for classroom
learning, beginning in the 1970s.
Other
Carolina Biological Supply Company games include : "Blood
Flow", "Cell Game", "Energy
Quest", and "Pollution".
