A
game developed around the largest naval battle of Word War I. It covers
the daylight fighting from 1530 to 2015 hours on 31 May 1916. The British
Grand fleet had numerical superiority but that was offset by its inferior
shells and ship design. The battle, then, really comes down to maneuvering
one's ships for best tactical advantage. Hexes are about one nautical mile
and game-turns about 12 minutes.
The
British player assumes the role of Admiral Jellicoe and, if a second British
player is involved, they assume the role of Vice Admiral Beatty in commanding
the Battle Cruiser Fleet. The German Player acts as Vice Admiral Scheer
and, if a second German player is involved, they are Vice Admiral Hipper
commanding the Scouting Forces. There is a basic game version and an advanced,
with optional rules for more variation. Low to medium complexity.
Game
components include : Mapsheet, 100 Counters (no blanks) and Rules. (Note:
Game, as originally published in the magazine, had a Countersheet of 200
Counters but 100 of the Counters were for other games)
Two
to four players. Ages 12 & up. XTR from 1990 --- Command Magazine #
8.
