A
sim of the campaigns of Alexander III ("The Great") of Macedon from 334
to 323 BC. Players take the roles of either Alexander, leading the Macedonians
and a coalition of Greek city-states, or the Persian King, Darius III (or
his
successor), leading the Persians and independent Indian states and barbarian
tribes. The strategic map is about 80 miles per inch with game-turns about
3 months. The tactical display is abstract and represents varying distances
depending on the battle. Tactical battles occur whenever there are opposing
forces in a province at the start of the Combat Phase. If there are 3 or
more units on each side, the tactical display is used to resolve combat.
Besides
the usual "military" points and victories, there is also a system of reaching
"objectives" which add to the victory points of Alexander --- Royal Family,
Persian Treasures, Gordian Knot, Oracle of Ammon and more. Units and features
include: heavy & light infantry, cavalry, leaders, elephants, siege
combat, Spartan revolt, Barbarian incursions and more, along with optional
rules for more variations. Low to medium complexity.
Game
components include : Mapsheet, 184 Counters (no blanks) and Rules. (Note:
Game, as originally published in the magazine, had a Countersheet of 200
Counters but 16 of the Counters were for other games)
Two
players. Ages 12 & up. XTR from 1991 --- Command Magazine # 10.
