On
2 Feb 1862, two days after Fort Donelson had been invested by a Union army
under General Grant, the 18,000-man Confederate garrison made a vigorous
counterattack, hoping to either break out and escape southward or to prevent
the establishment of a siege of the fort. The game re-creates that situation.
The onus is on the Confederate player because, in order to re-create the
confusion in their forces at the time, the Confederate player does not
know their victory conditions until they have achieved some measure of
success --- either through a large break out (with 50 or more strength
points exitted) or by holding Fort Donelson and other key points. Optional
rules allow for some variations. Medium complexity.
