A
sim of the war between the United States and Mexico that erupted in April,
1846. Although the dispute was originally about a strip of territory between
the Nueces and Rio Grande Rivers, the consequence of the war stripped Mexico
of what is now much of the American southwest, including California. This
may rank as one of the most important wars in the 19th century.
Game
pieces generally consist of infantry (in 3 classifications - regular, seasoned
& conscripts), artillery (heavy or field), cavalry and supply depots.
The game works around a mechanism using "friction" points, with each unit
type having an inherent number of them. A "disintegration table" is provided
to account for loses in friction for movement and combat. There are also
strength points, but these are not pre-assigned per unit but any unit can
represent the appropriate number of them.
There
is the ability for an amphibious assault on Vera Cruz and a President Polk
indecision table. Victory conditions can vary, depending on how players
wish to score. Medium complexity.
Game
components include : Mapsheet, 100 Counters (no blanks) and Rules.
Two
players. Ages 12 & up. 3W / World Wide Wargames from 1989 --- Strategy
& Tactics Magazine # 127.
