| A
sim of the Battle of Poltava, the climax of the Swedish warrior-king Charles
XII's invasion of Russia. The battle took place on 28 Jun 1709 north of
the town of Poltava in the Ukraine. One player commands the the Swedish
army under Charkes II and the other commands the forces of Peter I (Peter
the Great) of Russia. Each hex is about 160 meters, each strength point
about 150 men and each game-turn about 45 minutes.
Four
scenarios are included. The Standard scenario gives each player the actual
forces present but allows for more free set-up. The Historical scenario
gives the actual forces present but restricts set-up to historical disposition.
The other two scenarios are "What-ifs" and explore possibilities. Optional
rules allow for variations of play and include Russians surprised, Charles
unwounded, Assault equipment, hand grenades, fatigue and more. Low to medium
complexity.
A supplemental
mini-game was created around this called Lesnaja, which re-created
the battle which took place before the Battle of Poltava. The mini-game
had its own map & counters but required the game rules from Peter
The Great.
Game
components include : Mapsheet, 200 Counters (no blanks) and Rules.
