Far
Seas is a game of nine turns for 2 or more players that simulates
the operations of, and against, the eight German cruisers that were caught
at sea on the outbreak of World War I. The German player(s) controls eight
cruisers, five armed merchant cruisers, and five battlecruisers. The British
player(s) controls the eighty British, French, Japanese, and Russian ships
that operated against them.
The sequence of play is divided
into "segments" and a general outline goes something like this : the German
player(s) writing down their moves, the British player(s) actually making
their moves and then the German player(s), as written down, make their
moves. Then there is a resolving of Searches, Discoveries, Surprises &
Running, followed by appropriate Combat. The German player can then make
Captures & Raids and try to return to Germany.
Optional rules like Armed
Merchant Cruisers, Breakout of German Battlecruisers, Cordite Accident,
British Convoys, German Overseas Colonies, Boer Rebellion and more add
variations. With some changes, this can be played solitaire. Low to medium
complexity.
Game
components include : Mapsheet, 120 Counters (no blanks) and Rules.
Two
or more players (can be adjusted for solitaire play). Ages 12 & up.
