On
June 13, 1982, paratroopers and armor of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF)
rolled to the edge of Beirut, joining forces with their Phalange Christian
allies. They never got much farther. The Palestine Liberation Organization's
(PLO) attempt to organize a regular army had failed, but so had Israel's
drive to exterminate it. Beirut '82: Arab Stalingrad simulates
the siege of Beirut and its victory conditions reflect the diplomatic hindrances
of that struggle.
Each
hex is about 2000 feet, each turn is about 3 days and a strength point
is about one battalion. Counters vary widely because of the exotic armies
involved: Syrian regulars, IDF regulars, IDF paratroopers, private militias
and PLO guerrillas. There are varying levels of victory, with the "historical"
victory points being about 25 for Israel and 20 for the PLO. Optional rules
include Leader actions, Cease Fires and Battle Of Hotels. Low complexity.
Game
components include : Mapsheet, 72 Counters (no blanks) and Rules. Note
: Game, as originally published, had 100 Counters --- 72 for this game
and 28 others for a variant of AH's Third Reich game.
Two
players. Ages 12 & up. 3W / World Wide Wargames from 1989 --- Strategy
& Tactics Magazine # 126.
Design
: Thomas M. Kane.
