A SHORT 3M GAME HISTORY
Scotch Tape and Post-It Notes would not seem to go together with games ... but then again, there is the 3M Company. What is said to have started off as a bit of "vanity" for their Executives by creating games, turned into a complete Games Division within the corporate giant. They cranked out games from the early 1960s until the mid-1970s, eventually getting out of the business and selling off to Avalon Hill.
.
The games were generally divided into four categories : the BookShelf / BookCase games, the slick vinyl "wrap-around" board/box which housed the Sports line, the mini "gamette" made up of mostly card games, and the "paper" line of games.
.
In general the games were of high-quality and easy to learn but gave value for the dollar, besides covering a variety of topics and categories ... AND, they had no less a personage as Sid Sackson design some of their games!
.
Although the vast majority of the games can still be found rather easily, there are a few which are still sought after : Acquire, Bazaar, Feudal, Regatta and Sleuth are a few.
