INTRODUCTION:
The Ten Commandments Bible Game is a well-established family game that
takes you on an adventure-filled journey through the "Bible Lands" of old.
Through suspenseful action and a rich treasure of full-color illustrations,
the people, scenes and the life of Bible times are dramatically portrayed,
demonstrating those ideals which are cherished and found in all versions
of the Bible. You and your fellow explorers will take part in the daily
life and face dangers that challenged so many of the pioneers in the great
Bible stories.
FOR:
2 to 6 players
AGES:
Pre-teens to Adult
OBJECT:
The first player (called a Traveler in the game) who has their TEN COMMANDMENTS,
and arrives at any Commandment Position after the Good Neighbor and Philistine
Projects have been completed, is the winner.
EQUIPMENT:
Gameboard, Journey Wheel spinner card, 6 sets of colored Commandment Tablets
for the Travelers, a plain set of Commandment Tablets for the Steward,
deck of Scroll Cards, 120 wooden discs (representing Harvest Baskets of
grapes, grain, olives & fish), plastic discs (chips) representing Pieces
of Silver, 6 playing pieces & instructions (usually under the box lid).
TO
BEGIN PLAY:
1.
One player will be selected to act as the Steward, and their duties will
be to watch over the tray containing all game supplies - distributing,
receiving & handling them according to the rules of the game.
2.
After placing the gameboard on the table and arranging the Scroll Cards
face down at the position marked Scroll Cards, the Steward will give each
player one playing piece & 4 Harvest Baskets - one of each color (purple
= grapes, yellow = grain, green = olives & orange = fish).
3.
The players will keep their Harvest Baskets on the table in front of them
and place their playing pieces on the cities of the matching colors on
the Bible Land map in the center of the gameboard. For the remainder of
the game each player will be known as, or called, the Traveler from that
city. The following are the Home cities on the Bible Land map: Tyre, Capernaum,
Caesarea, Samaria, Joppa & Hebron. Until a Traveler spins the Journey
Wheel which indicates the number of spaces to move their playing piece,
it will remain in their Home city.
4.
The game will begin when the Steward, as the first Traveler, spins the
Journey Wheel and moves their playing piece the number of spaces indicated
by the arrow. Starting from THE INN, which is the first space, all Travelers
must move in the direction of the road marked "Travel This Way". After
the first Traveler has moved, the other Travelers will follow in their
turn.
5.
The center of the board has an illustrated map titled Land Of The Bible
which depicts scenes and activities typical of Bible times. Other than
the Good Neighbor Project area and the position called Scroll Cards, the
only other play action areas on this map are the Travelers' Home Cities.
Arranged in a border beginning at THE INN and going around all four sides
of the gameboard are 40 spaces or Positions, all of which are named, have
instructions printed on them, and are illustrated in colors that relate
them to other Positions that are members of the same group or family. All
40 Positions are included in 8 COLOR GROUPS and are explained below.
METHOD
OF PLAY: The general rule for playing this game is that the Travelers
will follow the instructions printed on any Position at which they arrive.
Detailed information is as follows...
1.
GROUP
1: COMMANDMENT POSITIONS: There are 4 YELLOW Positions in this
group: Prophet, Good Samaritan, Lost Lamb & Mt. Sinai. A Traveler arriving
at any of the Positions will receive a Commandment Tablet from the Steward.
When a Traveler has received all ten of their Commandments, in numerical
order, these Positions become Rest Positions until both the Good Neighbor
and Philistine Projects have been completed. After these two projects are
completed, the first Traveler holding ten Commandments who arrives at any
Commandment Position wins the game.
2.
GROUP
2: HARVEST POSITIONS: The 4 Positions in this group - Vineyard, Field
of Grain, Olive Grove & Sea of Galilee - have WHITE backgrounds
and Harvest colored circles (purple, yellow, green or orange). Travelers
arriving at any of these Positions will receive TWO HARVEST BASKETS
(wooden discs of matching colors) from the Steward.
3.
GROUP
3: APPRENTICE POSITIONS: The 3 Positions in this group - Pottery Maker,
Carpenter & Tent Maker, are identified by WHITE backgrounds
and GRAY CIRCLES. A Traveler arriving at one of these Positions
will receive ONE PIECE OF SILVER (a plastic disc) from the Steward.
4.
GROUP
4: SPECIAL POSITIONS: There are 4 Special Positions identified by GREEN
backgrounds...
(A)
HUSBANDMAN:
At this Position the Traveler will receive ONE HARVEST BASKET from EACH
HARVEST.
(B)
WISEMAN:
Travelers arriving here will move IMMEDIATELY to the PHILISTINE
Position.
(C)
MARKET
PLACE: Travelers arriving here may, if they wish, trade or exchange
Harvest Baskets or Pieces Of Silver for other Harvest Baskets or Pieces
Of Silver from the Supply Tray. All exchanges will be made at the rate
of ONE FOR ONE.
(D)
PHILISTINE:
Travelers arriving or who are sent here will READ ALOUD ALL THE COMMANDMENTS
THEY HAVE RECEIVED WHICH HAVE NOT ALREADY BEEN READ TO THE PHILISTINE.
For each Commandment read to the Philistine by a Traveler, the Steward
will place a WHITE Commandment Tablet face up on the table next
to the Philistine Position. When all ten Commandments have been read, the
Philistine Project will have been complete and this Position will become
a Rest Position.
5.
GROUP
5: GOOD NEIGHBOR POSITIONS: The 7 Positions in this group all have
PINK
backgrounds and serve as CONTRIBUTION places, or points from which
the Travelers can send their Harvest Baskets to the Good Neighbor Project.
The Good Neighbor Project area has drawings or symbols representing the
4 Harvest (grapes, grain, olives & fish) and groups of WHITE
dots beneath each Harvest Sign where the appropriate Baskets for that Harvest
are placed.
Whenever
Travelers arrive at one of the Good Neighbor Positions, they can, if they
have the appropriate Harvest Baskets send ONE or TWO. The total
number of Harvest Baskets needed to complete the Good Neighbor Project
is:
24
Baskets (6 from each Harvest) when 2 are playing
36
Baskets (9 from each Harvest) when 3 are playing
48
Baskets (12 from each Harvest) when 4 are playing
60
Baskets (15 from each Harvest) when 5 are playing
72
Baskets (18 from each Harvest) when 6 are playing
The
total amount for the Good Neighbor Project will come from ALL of
the Travelers. There is no definite number of Baskets that each individual
Traveler must send. When the Project has been completed, these Positions
become Rest Positions. From the following 4 Positions, a Traveler may contribute
ONE
or TWO Baskets...
Bride
.................. Grapes only
Camel
Driver ....... Grain only
Nomad
Camp ...... Olives only
River
Jordan ........ Fish only
From
the remaining 3 Good Neighbor Positions, a Traveler may contribute ONE
Basket only from any Harvest. These 3 are the Beggar, Blind Man & Leper.
6.
GROUP
6: SCROLL CARD POSITIONS: The 3 Positions in this group, identified
by a BLUE background, are Wilderness, King & Crossroads. Travelers
arriving at these Positions take the top Scroll Card and IMMEDIATELY
follow the instructions printed on it. Then the Scroll Card is placed,
face down, on the bottom of the pile. However, Scroll Cards marked PASS
are held by the Traveler until needed.
7.
GROUP
7: REST AND VISIT POSITIONS: The 8 Positions in this group, identified
by a TAN background, are Smith, Inn, Shepherd Boy, Garden, Well,
Grazing Sheep, Mt. Carmel and Oasis. Travelers arriving at these Positions
remain only until their next turn (effectively, Rest Positions).
8.
GROUP
8: HAZARD POSITIONS: The 7 RED Hazard Positions are...
(A)
SERPENT:
Any Traveler arriving at this Position is TRAPPED (must remain there).
They can return to their regular play ONLY AFTER ALL TRAVELERS IN THE
GAME HAVE PASSED THIS POSITION.
(B)
DEN
OF THIEVES: All the Pieces Of Silver held by a Traveler arriving at
this Position is returned to the Supply Tray.
(C)
TOWER
OF BABEL: A Traveler arriving here LOSES TWO TURNS.
(D)
LOCUST
SWARM: All of the Grape and Grain Harvest Baskets held by a Traveler
arriving here are returned to the Supply Tray.
(E)
TAX
GATHERER: Unless Travelers arriving here can pay TWO PIECES OF SILVER
and ONE BASKET FROM ANY HARVEST, they must remain here ONE TURN
FOR EACH ITEM THEY DO NOT PAY. (Example: Traveler arrives and can only
pay one Piece Of Silver. Traveler must now remain here TWO turns.)
(F)
DESERT
STORM: All of the Olive and Fish Harvest Baskets held by any Traveler
arriving here are returned to the Supply Tray.
(G)
ROMAN
PROCURATOR: Unless the Travelers arriving here can pay TWO PIECES
OF SILVER and ONE HARVEST DEMANDED AS TRIBUTE BY THE ROMAN PROCURATOR,
they are put in the Dungeon (they must remain here) ONE TURN FOR FOR
EACH ITEM OR TRIBUTE THEY DO NOT PAY (see Tax Gatherer above for example).
NOTE:
The ONLY EXCEPTIONS to the rules for the Hazard Positions listed
above are:
(A)
If all the Travelers are trapped in Hazard Positions at the same time,
then the first Traveler who was trapped spins the Journey Wheel and moves
their playing piece out of the Hazard Position in the usual way. The other
Travelers follow suit in the order that they were trapped.
(B)
When a Traveler arrives at a Hazard Position for which they have a Scroll
PASS
Card, they can pass IMMEDIATELY to the next Position and disregard
the Hazard Position instructions. the Scroll Card is then returned, face
down, to the bottom of the pile. |
